Hello. I know I've deleted the previous post before most of you read because I wasn't happy with the work. Now I'm with something that might change the future trajectory of this country in terms of peace and harmony between religions.
Before you get confused, all I'm talking about the Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Ordinance Act - 2020. Well, for the course of this article, let's call it the Love Jihad Act ( because the media calls it so.. ). This act was passed by the BJP lead Uttar Pradesh government. This act is to prohibit forcible religious conversions. By forcible religious conversions, it means that conversion through marriage or missionary activities. This act mainly focuses on marital religious conversions. Just as a piece of information, let me add the punishment for the offense under this act is 10 years of non-bailable jail.
Now, let's look into the history. Earlier, many states passed such laws on forcible religious conversions. Under the right to religious freedom but those laws were only for forcible conversions under missionary activities. Such laws were passed in Odissa and Lucknow ( before independence ). But, this act is first of its kind which mentions forcible religious conversions through marriage.
Within few hours of the passing the bill, the first case was filed by Bajrang Dal which is a Hindu nationalist political party against a Muslim man who married a Hindu woman and the woman converted to Islam after their marriage. The man was sent to jail and the woman was left alone on the streets. Let me quote another case that was mentioned in 'The Hindu' newspaper. The "offender's" spouse who converted to Islam after her marriage with a Muslim man. She asked the media whether a hindu loving a Muslim a crime or is it just a human emotion?" ( These aren't the words she used but I just paraphrased ).
OPINION:
Dish-clay-maar
This is just an opinion. We can have different opinions and we can still be friends. We can agree on something and disagree on something and that is completely normal. If you believe in something and I don't, that is completely normal. This is just an opinion and there is no rule that everyone should have the same opinion.
This act doesn't allow people to exercise their right to freedom of religion. It completely violates one of the fundamental rights mentioned in the constitution. Religion is something personal and no one can interfere with something that is personal. If there is actual forcible religious conversion after marriage, report it to the police. If there is a problem that anyone doesn't know how to report, educate them. I want to give this one last example and let yo decide what is wrong and what is not.
Lord Venkateswara married Bibi Nancharamma who was a Muslim. There are millions of people who worship Lord Venkateswara. Now because he married a Muslim, does he become an anti-national? A liberandu as the bhakts would like to call? Or a love jihadi?
Inter religious marriage has been in this land for many ages and that's also the reason for the diversity we have here. In Bhadrachalam, for every Ram Navami, there is a culture that the thalambralu in the Sri vari kalyanam are the pearls and rice grains in a red colour that was introduced by the Muslim Nizam rulers. Ever since then the tradition followed. Such cultural exchanges bring religious harmony. These acts create religious boundaries and give rise to communal riots which is the last thing anyone in this country wants.
That is all I wanted to tell you on the act. Hope such acts aren't passed all over India and in the places where I live because I prefer religious harmony over communal riots. To achieve that we must act during elections. Forming an opinion based on the previous records of the government and the manifestoes of different parties and NOT on the basis of the speeches campaigns or interviews. Okay that's it for now ( that's not it, that's alot but anyways) Bye 👋👋
